Shirley Gordon: Grayson Co. VA Inspiration

Several organizations in Grayson, Co., VA are nominating Shirley Cox Gordon for the COA Challenge. She has served her country, and her community through participation in local government, securing grants to improve the quality of life in her community, and through just plain hard work! An avid gardener, she is literally not afraid to get her hands dirty. We love you, Shirley!

For Shirley, service in her community is not something one does to fill one’s time, but rather it is a way of life. The impact of her life’s service is immeasurable! Though her husband passed over 12 years ago, she still perseveres in service to her community. Here is an example of her dedication: Following back surgery last year at age 82, Shirley was seen 6 weeks post-op out working in her beloved herb and flower garden at the Matthews Living History Farm Museum!

Shirley is responsible for several million dollars awarded to Grayson County for at least 3 separate grants she has written. We are certain to have missed much, for Shirley is quite humble and doesn’t speak much of her accomplishments!
